Open Doors…and Elevators

Proverbs 22:16, “A person who gets ahead by oppressing the poor or by showering gifts on the rich will end in poverty.”

Everybody in life is trying to get ahead.  No matter what one’s reasons are, we all want to do better than what we’re doing.  There is nothing wrong with wanting to go to the next level in life. Many times we strive day by day and hour by hour to make it to the next place, or to what appears to be better than what we have right now. We want to elevate to the next job, the next station in life, or perhaps the next opportunity. It is desire and ambition that moves us onward and upward. God always wants us to strive to do and be more so we can fulfill all of the potential that each of us is blessed with. While God desires for  us to advance and elevate he also has an opinion on how we should do it.

God has never been a fan of us using, manipulating, or abusing people to get to where we think we should be. Often we may begin to think that the only way to get a door to open is to use other people to open it.  Oppressing the poor to get where you want to go is never honoring to God. I’ve heard numerous times old people say, “Be careful how you treat people on your way up, because you may have to see them on your way down.”  By using the backs of others to climb up the ladder of success, you are basically setting yourself up to see them on the way back down. Likewise, hoping that through flattery the rich will pull you over the hump rarely works either. If they take the same attitude of stepping on people to elevate themselves, they will take what you have and leave you right where you are.

There is only one guaranteed way to the top. It does not involve misusing those below you or trying to get favor from those above you. The only true way to get to and stay at the top is to let the Lord elevate you. How do we get him to elevate us?? By staying humble. James 4:10 says, “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” When God is ready to elevate you he puts people in place to lift you. You don’t have to use or abuse or bribe because God opens doors no man can close. So as you are on your way to the top, allow God to put the people you need in place, then you will get to stay where he puts you.   Remember when God opens a door no man can shut it!  and When God exalts you no man can take you down!

Prayer:
Father, today I pray for every reader who is struggling with closed doors, waiting to be exalted, or their “due” season.  I pray that as they humble themselves under your mighty hand that you will put people in their path that will lift them to their destined place!  I pray that the open doors you’ve predestined for them be revealed and made manifest in their lives!  We give you praise for it now.  In Jesus’ Name.  Amen!

God Will Sustain You!

Out of all the books in the bible, The books of The Kings are by far my favorite.  They are filled with tragedy, triumph, and some very valuable lessons.  As I was reading today, I came across a very interesting passage of scripture, dealing with the prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 17: 7 – 9 below:
7Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. 8 Then the word of the LORD came to him: 9 “Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.”

Many times we experience times in our life when our source of life dries up.  I have been there multiple times in my own life where it seems as if the brooks in my life had dried up.  Have you ever been there when that which you looked to in life had dried up and there was no rain to replenish what was depleted?  It can be very easy to lose hope and give up, but we must never discount where we are.  Discounting where you are can be extremely dangerous because it can cause you to lose the momentum to move forward to something better.  God often uses our current situation to only hold us for a season while he is preparing something better in your future.  If we are not careful, we can become so defeated, and so negative about where we are that God cannot even begin to show us that we are on the cusp of something great!

God allowed the brook to dry up in order to move the prophet to the next appointment in his destiny.  But the thing that I love about God is that He already prepared a widow to “sustain” him at the next place.  You cannot get so defeated that you are not sensitive to the direction or the voice of God.  Don’t be discouraged if the situation in your life appears to be drying up, God is testing your obedience and sensitivity to his voice.  And if you can just hold on….He’ll make sure that this next season will be sustained by people who you don’t know.  God is touching the hearts of people that have your destiny and assignment in their hand!

Sustained by Him,
DP

Prayer:
Father, I pray for everyone that is experiencing the season where their brooks are drying up and they are waiting for you to move them to a place of replenishment!  Thank you for sustaining us and continuing to provide for us even though we may not see it!  I pray for expansion, provision, and supernatural alignment with the purpose and plan of God!  In Jesus’ Name.  Amen!
